MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Trying to decide which coach was more upset following Kansas States 63-7 rout of Florida Atlantic on Saturday proved far more difficult than figuring out which was the better team.In one locker room was Charlie Partridge, who lambasted his Owls for nearly getting shut out. They had four turnovers that led to 21 points on offense, and were largely inept on defense. In the other locker room? Bill Snyder ripped his Wildcats for committing 13 penalties for 131 yards. We totally lacked the discipline to play this game, Snyder said, giving no indication of joy after moving within six wins of reaching 200 for his career. You might get away with it in a ballgame like this but if you do that in the conference we play in, youre not going to be hanging your hat.Eliminate the penalties, though, and the Wildcats (1-1) were actually quite dominant.Winston Dimel ran for four first-half touchdowns, Jesse Ertz threw for another score and Dominique Heath returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown as Kansas State put up its most points since 2009.A lot of people questioned our offense, Kansas State running back Dalvin Warmack said, reflecting on a 26-13 loss to Stanford in the season opener. A lot of people challenged us to be better. The Wildcats responded by cruising to a 42-0 halftime lead, at one point scoring on back-to-back one-play drives set up by Florida Atlantic turnovers. And the Wildcats finished off the route by getting backup quarterbacks Alex Delton and Joe Hubener in the end zone in the fourth quarter.Greg Howell had a touchdown run earlier in the fourth quarter for the Owls.We wanted the shutout, Kansas State linebacker Elijah Lee said with a smile.Jason Driskel threw for 125 yards, but the Florida Atlantic quarterback also tossed two interceptions and lost two fumbles deep in his own territory. Kansas State turned those into 21 points.I gave them 21 points in one half and you cant beat a good team doing that -- cant even beat a bad team doing that, Driskel said. Thats on me. My team and my coaches trust me with the ball every play. Im the only person who touches the ball every play and I let them all down today. The Wildcats were playing their latest scheduled home opener since 1992, and also christening the most recent renovation to Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The $15 million project to enclose the lower bowl provided new space for the marching band and the visiting Owls (1-2) with plush new locker rooms. They probably should have stayed in there at kickoff.Kansas State marched 89 yards for a touchdown on its opening possession, then got the ball back and went 72 yards for another score. Two more touchdown runs by Dimel off Florida Atlantic turnovers made it 28-0 by the time some fans finally reached their seats -- and the Owls knew what hit them.Second drive of the game they had a lot of success running the ball, Owls coach Charlie Partridge said. We got some things fixed and adjusted and tweaked, guys were being more aggressive. Not that it helped a whole lot.Dimel, the Wildcats big fullback, scored once on a draw, twice out of the wildcat formation, and plunged in from the 3-yard line just before halftime to give Kansas State a 42-0 lead.Meanwhile, the Owls could only manage 211 yards total offense, and the ineffective Driskel was benched early in the fourth quarter with the game already out of reach.RED ZONE ALERTKansas State was 8 for 8 in the red zone with eight touchdowns, continuing its perfect streak dating back nine games. The Wildcats, best in the Big 12 at scoring inside the 20 a year ago, have put points on the board on 36 straight trips with 26 touchdowns.THE TAKEAWAYFLORIDA ATLANTIC: Partridge said this week that he is trying to emulate the way Snyder built his program. But he clearly has a long way to go. The Owls are coming off back-to-back three-win seasons, and could have a hard time getting to that mark if they play like they did Saturday.KANSAS STATE: The Wildcats cleaned up a lot of the issues that popped up in their loss to Stanford, and get another chance to clean up the penalties against Missouri State next weekend. Things get tougher after that with a visit to West Virginia to open the Big 12 schedule.UP NEXTFLORIDA ATLANTIC: The Owls return home to play Ball State next Saturday night.KANSAS STATE: The Wildcats wrap non-conference play against the Bears on Saturday night.Kaleb McGary Youth Jersey .25 million option on reliever Jose Veras. They wanted to shake Chris Boshs hand. By now, its not a surprise when the biggest man in Miamis trio of stars gets overshadowed, which surely seemed to be the case once again in the game that essentially saved any hope the Heat have at winning their second straight NBA title. James scored 33 points in his best game of the finals and Wade played his best game in about three months with 32 points, but Boshs 20-point, 13-rebound effort in Miamis 109-93 win over San Antonio was not lost on the Heat. "He got into the battle. He got into the fight," Wade said. "He played big for us. Thirteen rebounds, thats what we need from him and obviously 20 points. He played the way that we love to see Chris Bosh play." Put another way, if Bosh keeps playing like this, there could be another parade down Biscayne Boulevard in a few days. Maligned throughout much of the playoffs for relying almost too much on the long jumper and 3-point shot -- hes exceptional from the outside for a big man, but went 0 for 4 from 3-point range in Miamis loss in Game 1 of the finals -- Bosh quietly changed his approach. In the next three games of the finals, hes taken one 3-pointer, and that was a meaningless misfire with the Heat down by 26 points midway through the fourth quarter of San Antonios romp in Game 3. Hes had three straight double-doubles, just the second time thats happened all season. Hes stayed in more comfortable offensive locales inside the arc, and has totalled 44 points and 33 rebounds in the most recent three games of the series -- three more points and three more rebounds than the Spurs Tim Duncan has collected in that span. Yes, the NBA found him guilty of flopping in Game 4, fining him $5,000 for his arms-flailing fall after a nudge by Duncan. Overall, though, Bosh was anything but a flop in a game that kept Miami from going into what would have been a dreaded 3-1 hole. "I dont know really what the difference has been with Chris," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said on Friday, an off day for both teams before the series resumes with Game 5 in San Antonio on Sunday. "All we know is we need it. And last night he played all his minutes at the centre, where we needed it even more. It will be a collective effort. But there wont be anybody else we can turn to." The Heat have an offensive style all their own, the so-called positionless approach. The sstarting lineup in Game 4 was James, Wade, Mario Chalmers and Mike Miller along with Bosh, meaning it was four perimeter players with one big man, against a Spurs lineup that has, in Duncan, one of the best power forwards of all time.dddddddddddd Bosh played Duncan evenly. Both scored 20. The other star matchups, those were Miami routs. James and Wade combined for 65 points. San Antonios Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili combined for 20. "When those guys play like that," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of Miamis three stars, "you better be playing a more perfect game." Spoelstras decision to start Miller in Game 4 sparked a flurry of trickledown effects. The Spurs went to their bench 47 seconds into the game. Millers mere presence helped open up some space for James and Wade, and their big scoring nights were no coincidence. It also gave Bosh extra room to manoeuvr inside, where he seemed active as hed been at any point in the series, maybe the entire playoffs. "I was able to get in the paint a lot more," Bosh said. "I think it really opened up my game a little bit. The jumper really wasnt there in the first half, but it came eventually. I was just able to get in a really good flow." The second half, he was darn close to perfect. He made five of his six shots, had nine rebounds, two blocks to keep the game tied in a two-possession span midway through the third quarter, even got on the floor for a loose ball as teammates around him couldnt wait to pull him up and slap his backside. And when the night was over, Bosh really wasnt all that fascinated with his stat line. All that mattered was the win. "Its just the disposition, first of all, with myself, and then everybody else," Bosh said. "Those things are going to follow. I dont really pay too much attention to the numbers. Its just how Im doing, the energy and effort that Im giving out there, and everything else falls into place. I always believe that if I bring the necessary energy, things will go well." Thats why the Heat have called him their most important player for the last three years. Thats also why, after a game where they grabbed the headlines, James and Wade wouldnt walk into the Texas night without their big man. "Ever since weve gotten together, since the first game, weve had to respond to adversity," Bosh said. "Thats something that we pride ourselves on. And we really concentrate. When things get rough and theyre not going like you want them to go, thats when we pull together even more." ' ' '
