Matias Laba is headed to the Vancouver Whitecaps. After reports emerged on Tuesday that the Toronto FC midfielder would head to Vancouver on loan, the team confirmed on Wednesday that they had, in fact, traded for the Argentine designated player. Toronto will receive future considerations. Laba came to Toronto last season from Argentinos Juniors and started all 16 of his appearances with the club last term. With the acquisitions of a trio of designated players this offseason in Brazilian striker Gilberto, American international midfielder Michael Bradly and striker Jermain Defoe of Tottenham, TFC had one more designated player than the three allowed by Major League Soccer rules and Laba was the odd man out. Whitecaps manager Carl Robinson, a former TFC midfielder himself, believes that Laba can help the Vancouver midfield immediately. "Matias is a promising young talent and we are excited to have him join our club," said Robinson in a statement. "He is a hard, aggressive player who brings a lot of energy to the pitch and although he is only 22, he is a natural leader on the field." The Whitecaps open up the MLS regular season on March 8 at home against New York Red Bulls. Vapormax Run Utility Canada . "Today was a very great day for me. Team officials travelled to Los Angeles on Thursday night to meet with the free agent, a person with knowledge of the plans said.New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The NBA announced Friday that commissioner Adam Silver has denied the protest filed by the Sacramento Kings over a last- second loss to Memphis on Nov. 13. Courtney Lees layup off an inbounds pass at the buzzer gave the Grizzlies a 111-110 win. The play was reviewed for several minutes before being upheld. The Kings, in their protest with the league, believed the shot should have been disqualified because time should have expired. Lee flew through the air to catch Vince Carters inbounds feed and got a reverse off-balance shot to fall as time expired, though television replays appeared to show the Kings Ryan Hollins getting a hand on the pass, which would have started a clock that had just 0.dddddddddddd3 seconds showing at the start of the play. Silver determined that the game officials call that Lees shot was timely was within their judgment and not a misapplication of the playing rules. ' ' '
