WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- For Purdue sophomores David Blough and Markell Jones, Saturdays 24-14 come-from-behind victory against Nevada was all about redemption.Blough threw an interception during the games opening series that the Wolf Pack converted into a touchdown and Jones lost two opening-half fumbles, one of which was converted into a touchdown. But Blough threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns, and Jones had a go-ahead score in the third quarter as Purdue rallied to win.Purdue, which turned it over four times, pulled within 14-10 late in the second quarter on Bloughs 48-yard touchdown pass to Bilal Marshall. Purdues defense dominated the third, limiting Nevada to 23 yards on 11 plays. We showed a lot of character, said Blough, who was intercepted five times during a loss to Cincinnati on Sept. 10. The TD pass to Marshall at the end of the first half was the play of the game. It was big for us.Jones 5-yard TD run capped a 12-play, 49-yard drive in the third quarter, and the Boilermakers (2-1) added a TD with 1:17 remaining in the fourth on Bloughs 51-yard pass to Brycen Hopkins. Jones finished with 124 yards for his third career 100-yard game. The Boilermakers have turned the ball over 10 times, including seven interceptions for Blough, in their first three games but are 2-1 for the first time in coach Darrell Hazells fourth season at Purdue. To be down at halftime, the guys showed a lot of grit to overcome four turnovers, Hazell said. The defense was phenomenal in the second half, and the score before halftime gave us momentum. It lifted our sideline. At halftime, we had a lot of energy in that locker room.Tyler Stewart threw touchdown passes of 15 yards to Hasaan Henderson and 6 yards to James Butler for Nevada (2-2). The Wolf Pack converted the Blough interception and a Jones fumble into a 14-3 lead.We just couldnt sustain drives today, said Stewart, who completed 21 of 27 passes for 173 yards. We were OK in spurts, but we just couldnt sustain drives. We put up only 14 points, and thats not enough against a team like Purdue. We knew their defensive front was pretty good. I knew there would be pressure. The Wolf Pack had an opportunity to pull even at 17 with 4:16 remaining in the fourth, but Brent Zuzo hooked a 27-yard field-goal attempt wide left, and Blough iced it.They made plays at the end when we should have, Nevada coach Brian Polian said. There were a lot of mistakes made in the game, and things didnt always go well. Still, we had a chance to win the game in the end, and we didnt do it.Purdue outgained Nevada 466-253.TAKEAWAYS:PURDUE: The Boilermakers were sloppy offensively throughout the game, but their defense pressured Stewart throughout the day and did not allow a point during the games final 35:56.NEVADA: The Wolf Pack came in featuring a strong rushing attack, averaging 208.3 yards a game, but had only 90 at halftime and lost 4 yards rushing during the third quarter when all the momentum shifted to Purdue. Meyers Leonard Heat Jersey . -- The Portland Timbers and Real Salt Lake played to a 0-0 tie Saturday night that left the top of the Western Conference standings unchanged.PHILADELPHIA -- Six weeks into the season, the Flyers and Bruins are looking like a pair of teams who could battle it out for one of the two wild card playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.Theyll battle it out for the first time this season Tuesday night when the Bruins visit South Philadelphia.Weve got to scratch and claw every night right now, Flyers coach Dave Hakstol told the Philadelphia Inquirer of his 10-10-3 team. Were a .500 hockey team and it seems like weve talked about that quite a lot. We can keep talking about it, or we can worry about doing something about it.The Flyers will play eight games in the next 13 days and 13 games in the 24-day stretch leading up to their Christmas break. They are looking to string together their first two-game win streak since early November when they won three straight. This is a critical stretch between now and the Christmas break, Hakstol said. Thats about as big picture as I want to get, and we absolutely have to narrow it down a lot further than that -- right down to the points that are available against Boston. The Bruins (12-10-0) are coming off Sundays 4-1 home win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Forward Jimmy Hayes recorded his first point in 36 games with his first goal since Feb. 24.He was so relieved by the goal that he threw an imaginary monkey off his back in celebration. It was more of a joke that it was an elephant, Hayes told CSN New England. I think I lost about a hundred pounds there. The four goals against the Lightning matched the total the Bruins had scored during their three-game losing streak.Goaltender Tuukka Rask came within 2:39 of aa shutout in the win, stopping 30 shots to improve his record to 12-4-0 and lower his GAA to 1.dddddddddddd3.Tuukka has had to keep the Bruins afloat this season because of a shortage of offense. Aside from the top-line forwards David Patrnak (team-high 13 goals, 17 points) and Brad Marchand (six goals, 19 points) the Bruins have struggled to produce this season, ranking 20th with 52 goals. Through 19 games Patrice Bergeron has just three goals and three assists. The Flyers have had no trouble putting up goals. They rank second behind the Rangers with 72 goals, led by Wayne Simmonds (11) and Jakub Voracek (eight). But theyve allowed an NHL-worst 76 goals, including three by rookie goalie Anthony Stolarz in a 5-3 win Sunday night against the Calgary Flames. The Flyers allowed the first goal in that game and have scored first in just eight of their 23 games. They are 5-1-2 when scoring first and 5-9-1 when they dont.Goaltender Steve Mason (5-8-3, 3.04) is expected to return to action Tuesday night. Hes lost three of his last four starts and is 2-3-1 since Michael Neuvirth suffered a knee sprain. The Bruins could be without a pair of veteran defensemen against the Flyers.Zdeno Chara has missed the past three games with a lower body injury and is not expected to play Tuesday night. Bruins defenseman John-Michael Liles left Sundays game with an upper-body injury after sliding head first into the end boards. Hes questionable for Tuesday and if he cannot play the Bruins likely will recall a defenseman from AHL Providence. ' ' '
