ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas says he didnt realize when he swapped jerseys with Harry Douglas after their game Sunday that the Tennessee Titans wide receiver was the culprit in taking out Chris Harris Jr. with a low block that led to a sideline scrum.Thomas and Douglas go way back and the two swapped jerseys and posed for pictures after Denvers 13-10 loss.Thomas said only later did he realize Douglas was the one who had cut-blocked Harris while both were throttling down on a run play on the other side of the field.Denver cornerback Aqib Talib was so angered by the play that he got into a fight with Douglas, with whom he shares an agent, on the next snap and threatened after the game to beat him up next time theyre in Atlanta together.Thomas has taken heat for posing with Douglas. At the time, I didnt even know about it. I stayed on the sidelines. I dont get into brawls, Thomas said Thursday. I didnt really see it until after the game. Ive known Harry for around eight-plus years now. Hes a great dude. I know he didnt mean anything bad, but from seeing the play, he could have stayed up and not done that to Chris.Im always going to have my guys back, Thomas said of his teammate, Harris. I fight with him every day. I see him every day. At the time, I didnt know it was (Douglas). I thought it was No. 18 at the time. Once I saw it, I saw it was him.Asked if the play by Douglas -- which was legal but widely considered dirty -- was out of character, Thomas said: I know hes a guy that likes to cut block a lot of guys. It happened late in the game. Im not going to say it was out of character, but I just know thats what he likes to do. At that time, I didnt think it was necessary.Von Miller is another player who likes to swap jerseys with opponents -- he has more than 20 framed, which he said he rotates in his basement. But Miller said Broncos players had no issue with Thomas over the jersey swap with Douglas.Im not sure that D.T. even knew what happened on the play. Even if he did, is D.T. supposed to not give him a jersey because of what happened? Miller said. I think they go way back. They have a relationship off the football field. It was really foggy during the football game anyway. I didnt really see what happened until we got in the locker room and I got to my phone. You have friends in the National Football League and sometimes that friendship goes way back. I think theyve known each other for a long time, so its nothing really serious about it. Whats D.T. supposed to do? `No man, Im not switching jerseys with you. I just feel that its not that serious.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Arnie Melendrez Stapleton on Twitter: http://twitter.com/arniestapletonStan Smith Wholesale China . WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Coach Dave Clawson hopes his Wake Forest players are all grown up now.The Demon Deacons have been among the nations youngest teams during Clawsons first two years at the school. All those freshmen and sophomores on his first depth chart in 2014 are now juniors and seniors, and hes hoping they can take a noticeable step forward after consecutive 3-9 seasons. Its tough to be patient in the ACCs Atlantic Division, where Clemson and Florida State look to reload every year with five-star recruits, but Clawson hopes the growing pains the past two seasons will finally start to pay off.I believe theres a way to win everywhere, he said. I think the process of how you do that isnt the same everywhere. We believe in our process at Wake Forest. I think this year we will take a nice step forward and become a much more competitive team that wins more games.Wake Forest, which has the smallest enrollment of any school in a power conference, ended last season with 27 players on the final depth chart in either their first or second year in the program -- with one at every position on offense -- and had only five players who were in their fifth year at the school. Those numbers are a little better this year -- six sixth-year players, 13 seniors in all and 15 redshirt juniors behind them -- and its a big reason why Clawson says this is his best team there.Wake Forest returns nine starters on offense, including four offensive linemen, and some welcome depth at the skill positions. Clawson says he has at least five running backs and seven receivers who can contribute. Now theyre a year older, a year stronger, understand the system better, he said. Thaats when guys make the big jump, is that second year playing.ddddddddddddWere going to have a whole bunch of guys on offense that hopefully collectively make that jump together.QB QUESTIONSClawson wants some clarity at quarterback, where he said it really became a juggling act all year with injuries to both John Wolford and Kendall Hinton. Wolfords more dangerous with his arm, while Hinton has better feet, and Clawson says they will split reps during camp. He said he believes in both, would prefer that one steps up and claims the job but adds that its hard to imagine we go through a year where we dont need both of them.CAM CANWake Forest has one of the ACCs best tight ends in Cam Serigne, a redshirt junior who needed just two years to tie a school record at his position with 100 receptions. Clawson says two years in his strength program has changed Serigne from a receiver who plays tight end into a model tight end, calling him a complete football player. That should help a rushing offense that has ranked last in the ACC in both 2014 and 15.KEY GAMESThe measuring stick comes Sept. 10 when the Demon Deacons visit Duke, an instate rival thats a model for the program Clawson is trying to build. Wins figure to be scarce in a division with Clemson, Florida State and Louisville, so a victory over the Blue Devils might be necessary if Wake Forest is to win six games and reach its first bowl in five years.SEASON OPENERWake Forest has a manageable opener Sept. 1 against a Tulane team breaking in a new coach.PREDICTIONWin 5, Lose 7.
