First Line Promotion Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun reports the Edmonton Oilers appear to be moving Sam Gagner to the first line in order to showcase him for a trade. The Oilers practiced with Gagner at right wing on the top line with Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on Thursday. Tychkowski speculates that though Gagner will likely be the first Oiler traded, he may not be the last as Jordan Eberle and Nail Yakupov could also be on the move. Tychkowski adds that the Oilers need to add many pieces to become a contender including multiple top-six forwards in 210-225 pound range, a top defence pair and a starting goaltender. A Perfect Fit? David Staples of the Edmonton Journal believes Andrew Ladd of the Winnipeg Jets is exactly what the Oilers need. Staples considers the idea of the Oilers trading Gagner for Ladd, Blake Wheeler or Dustin Byfuglien. With Mark Scheifele and Brian Little solidified at centre on the top two lines, Gagner could have to play on the wing in Winnipeg. Jetting to New York? In a chat with readers, Katie Strang of ESPN SportsNation noted that the New York Rangers could also have interest in Jets right-handed defenceman Byfuglien. Strang notes the Rangers could soon find themselves in need of defence as they try to move Michael Del Zotto. As well, contract talks with Dan Girardi continue to make no major progress. Top of the List Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports that re-signing goaltender Ryan Miller is a top priority for new Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray. However, if Miller is not interested in committing long-term, the Sabres will look to move the veteran netminder. Miller is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. Strang believes the Sabres must try to move Miller before the NHLs March 5 trade deadline. Nike Shoes China .
