Los Angeles Galaxy have confirmed that Steven Gerrard will not return to the club for the 2017 MLS season. The 36-year-old midfielder has been playing for the Galaxy for the past 18 months following his exit from boyhood club Liverpool but hinted earlier this week that his time in the United States was coming to an end.The American club were hoping he would sign a new contract and remain in California for another season but Gerrard has decided to head home following the Galaxys MLS play-off shoot-out defeat to the Colorado Rapids last week. Gerrard made 34 appearances for the MLS side Former England and Liverpool captain Gerrard departs LA after scoring five goals and making 14 assists in his 34 appearances for the club.In an open letter to Galaxy fans, he wrote: Over the last year and a half, it has been a privilege to represent the LA Galaxy and play in front of this clubs great fans.When I left Liverpool, I came to Los Angeles with the goal of helping the LA Galaxy lift another MLS Cup. I am very disappointed to have not achieved that objective, but I can look back at my time at the club with pride at what we accomplished, including two straight play-off appearances and countless memorable moments on the pitch. "Who knows whats going to happen. I try not to worry too much about that right now," Enroth said. "Ryans still here, and its still Ryans team." For now, at least. Unsure whether they will be forced to trade Miller before his contract expires after next season, the Sabres hedged their bets by re-signing Enroth to a two-year extension. Enroth, who was a restricted free agent, returns for a fourth season in Buffalo. With a 21-18-10 record and three shutouts in 53 career games as Millers backup, Enroth is coming off a solid spring during which he showed potential of becoming a bona fide starter. After closing the Sabres season going 4-1-1 in six starts, Enroth led Sweden to the World Ice Hockey championship on his home ice. He posted a 1.15 goals-against average and a 95.6 save percentage en route to being named the tournaments top goalie. It was a breakthrough performance for Enroth, the Sabres second-round pick in the 2006 draft. Both, however, have also noted the goalie will have a say on whether he wants to stay in Buffalo or test free agency next summer. Should Miller elect to bolt, the Sabres would prefer to trade him before then to get some value in return. Miller is open to staying in Buffalo, but also aware the team has to determine whether he fits in their rebuilding plans. Leading scorer, forward Thomas Vanek, is in the same situation as Miller. Regier said very little has changed regarding Millers status after he had discussions with the players agent last week. He also intends to meet with Vaneks agent during the NHL draft next week in New Jersey. "Theyre exploring their options, and part of that is predicated on what we do organizationally," said Regier, who added that neither player has ruled out the possibility of re-signing with the Sabres.
