While gambling can get out of control, Sweden has taken some steps to control gambling within their country. They passed a few acts that dealt with gambling in general in the 1990s, and they have since made some regulations on sports betting. Some of the regulations on sports betting have actually come from the European Commission. Sweden was lucky to be one of the 7 Member States that were chosen to host sports betting. After making Sweden one of the member states that was allowed to practice sports betting, the European Commission had some problems. Sweden was one of three countries that were issued a warning for their unethical gambling practices within the state.

Sweden, Greece, and France were reportedly inhibiting the competition among the gambling markets within their states. By doing this they were creating monopolies that would dominate the gambling scenes within their respective countries. If Sweden decided not to change after the warning they were warned that they would be taken to a court of law to settle the issues.

In 2008 there were proposals made that Sweden allow sports betting to take place online. By doing this the country would be able to increase the amount of revenue available through betting. People would not have to travel to make bets and they would be more likely to do it through internet services.

Online gambling was officially legalized within Sweden on the 11th of May in 2008. The online gambling still was and is under the watch of the European Union. Interestingly, there is a ban on advertising on online sports betting within the country. There are people that would like to overturn that ban, but it is currently in place in the country.

There are still people within the country that believe that online gambling is a bad idea. There are ethical issues that pose the question of whether or not the government will be able to keep people that are unable to make their own decisions(young children or mentally disabled individuals) from blowing all of their money or their family?s money on sports betting.

ADDIS ABABA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- A report revealed on Sunday that 28 African nations, accounting for over half of the African Union's (AU) 55 member states, still fall into the "serious" category in terms of hunger level.


The Global Hunger Index Africa Edition report, launched in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, said that despite a reduction of hunger level on the continent since 2000, the level of hunger in many countries Larry Bird Jersey , remains "unacceptably high" based on its scoring on 42 African countries where data could be calculated.


The hunger index is classified into five grades in severity scale, including low, moderate, serious, alarming, and extremely alarming.


Only three African countries on the continent, namely Tunisia Bill Russell Jersey , Algeria, and Morocco have achieved a low level of hunger, while 28 countries fall under the "serious level of hunger", and five countries under "alarming" categories, which include Sierra Leone, Madagascar, Zambia Kyrie Irving Jersey , Chad, and Central African Republic.


The report, released by the AU's implementing agency NEPAD together with other partners, said Burundi, Comoros, DR Congo, Eritrea Cheap Boston Celtics Jerseys , Libya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan are countries with insufficient data for assessing hunger and malnutrition levels.


In 2014, AU heads of states made a decision, dubbed Malabo Declaration, to accelerate Africa's agriculture growth and transformation Aron Baynes Jersey , with targets among others to end hunger by 2025.


Going by historical trends and projections, it is highly unlikely that the Malabo declaration target of eradicating hunger will be realized by 2025, noted the report.


Speaking during the launch of the report, Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, NEPAD Chief Executive Officer (CEO), underlined the need to accelerate the progress on addressing malnutrition and hunger in Africa.


The report called upon African countries to take measures such as integrating actions with national agriculture investment plans, improving supporting facilities to prevent food loss and enhancing infrastructure to boost trade.
