INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- Canadian Milos Raonic missed his chance at his first semifinal showing since last October as the 10th seed lost to Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3, 6-4 Thursday at the BNP Paribas Open. Raonic suffered a major letdown 24 hours after knocking out world No. 6 Andy Murray, managing only four aces and getting just one unsuccessful break chance on his Ukrainian opponents serve. Raonic last played in the semis six months ago in Tokyo after winning the Bangkok title. Given the political situation in his troubled homeland, Dolgopolov appeared as the obvious Californian crowd favourite, with a Ukrainian flag hanging in the stands over the empty seats of tournament owner and software billionaire Larry Ellison. Raonics loss also prevented the 23-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., from returning to a top 10 ranking on the ATP Tour. He will move on now to next weeks start of the Miami Masters, where he had to withdraw in 2013 before his third-round match due to illness. Raonic was broken in the second game by Dolgopolov, who set the tone for the afternoon at the Tennis Garden. The son of a tennis coach claimed the opening set in just 29 minutes. The momentum looked to be turning early in the second set, when Raonic broke for 2-0 before going up three games. But the determined Dolgopolov came back and won a marathon eight-minute fifth game to break Raonic. Raonic saved four break points in the game but double-faulted on a valuable game point before Dolgopolovs down-the-line winner cur Raonics set lead to 3-2. Dolgopolov built from that point, breaking for 4-3 and closing out the win on his first match point. Mike Foltynewicz Jersey . Roddick complained on his Fox Sports Live podcast this week that he wanted to play doubles with Fish at Flushing Meadows next month — until finding out that the 2003 U.S. Open champion is not eligible to compete currently. Roddicks last tournament was the 2012 U.S. Open, and he later officially filed for retirement from pro tennis. That paperwork removed him from the sports anti-doping program, which is why he cant enter this years U.S. Open. Roddick would need to have three months in the drug-testing program before being eligible to return to competition. On Wednesday, U.S. Tennis Association spokesman Chris Widmaier said the organization would be willing to give Roddick and Fish a wild card for doubles at the 22015 U.ddddddddddddS. Open. Roddick, who turns 32 on Aug. 30, said that he and Fish had talked recently about the idea of teaming up in New York. Roddick said its something they had originally dreamed about when they were teenagers. But Roddick began thinking about it again recently as a way to allow Fish to have another positive moment in tennis. Fish, a former top-10 player and Grand Slam quarterfinalist, has dealt with health issues and hasnt played a competitive match since August 2013. "Weve been friends. We went to high school together. We went through our entire careers as brothers, as Davis Cup teammates — the whole deal — and selfishly, I wanted to see him have an awesome time on a tennis court again," Roddick said on his podcast. Roddick also said that for him, it would be "a one-time thing; there were no thoughts of a comeback of any other sort." ' ' '
