SAINT-DENIS, France -- Portugal defender Pepe is fit and ready for another duel with Frances top forward Antoine Griezmann on the European Championship final on Sunday.I feel great. Im fully fit and can be chosen to play, Pepe said at a news conference on Saturday at the Stade de France. The tough Real Madrid defender sat out a 2-0 win in the semifinals against Wales because of a thigh muscle injury. The decision paid off for coach Fernando Santos not to risk his defensive leader against a Welsh attack that lacked the options France possesses.Griezmann is the clearest danger to Portugal, with his six-goal tally at Euro 2016 double that of any player, including Cristiano Ronaldo, who has three.Pepe and Ronaldo already got the better of Griezmann in a major final six weeks ago, when their Real Madrid team beat city rival Atletico in the Champions League final. Ronaldo scored the decisive penalty in a shootout after a 1-1 draw, and Griezmann missed a spot-kick when Atletico trailed 1-0 in the second half.Ive played against Griezmann several times in Spain, Pepe said through a translator. Hes not very tall, but hes very good at figuring out where the ball might be. Its important not to focus on one player, but France as a team.Though Pepe has two Champions League titles with Madrid, he acknowledged that Sundays game is the most important of his career.Yes, because Im representing my people, my country. We want to write our names in history, the 33-year-old defender said.Portugal seemed far away from the final when failing to win a group-stage game, and trailed three times against Hungary before salvaging a third straight draw.Santos then began selecting Southampton defenders Jose Fonte and Cedric Soares, leaving Pepe to lead a reshaped line that helped Portugal win tightly-contested knockout games against Croatia and Poland. This rugged, hard-to-beat style recalls Greeces surprise run to win Euro 2004 and beat the more attacking host Portuguese team in the final. Now Portugal is in a reversed role against a more flamboyant French side.I would like that, Pepe said when asked if history could repeat itself. That would be amazing but one thing has nothing to do with another. Twelve years have gone by and tomorrow is a totally different thing.Pepe has seemed on his best behavior at Euro 2016, cutting out the hard fouls that helped make his reputation and the play-acting simulation that angered many watchers of the recent Champions League final. The referee that May night in Milan, Mark Clattenburg of England, will have the whistle again on Sunday.I think this referee may be among the best two or three referees in the world, Pepe said. Its recognition of his work and his quality as a professional referee. I hope everyone has an easy night and that they can work peacefully. Air Max Baratas . BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU Tigers?mascot Mike VI?has an estimated one to two months to live, as a rare form of cancer has spread through his body, a school veterinarian said Wednesday.Dr. David Baker, of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, said a tumor found earlier this year in the tigers skull has grown despite radiation treatment. A CT scan and physical exam of Mike VI on Monday showed his cancer has spread to the base of his neck and to his lungs and right leg.All of these findings carry a very grave prognosis, Baker said. Our current plan is to give the LSU community time to say their goodbyes to Mike. He will be turned out in his yard each day as usual, so long as his condition allows.Baker said Mike will be euthanized when the time comes, to prevent the animal from suffering.Right now, his behavior and attitude are very normal. I tell people he doesnt know how sick he is, Baker said.Baker also said LSU has asked him to begin searching animal rescue facilities for a Mike VII.We intend to obtain a young male tiger in need of a good home,, he added.dddddddddddd. So many of these facilities take on perhaps more animals really than they can manage.LSU announced in May that the tiger had been diagnosed with a rare and inoperable form of cancer. At the time, veterinarians said treating its spindle cell sarcoma with radiation therapy could extend the 10-year-old tigers life by one or two more years.Last month, LSU announced that Mike VI wont take the field during home football games this season; instead, he will remain in his campus habitat. The 420-pound tiger was 2 years old when he arrived at LSU, donated by an Indiana animal sanctuary. He lives in a 15,000-square-foot enclosure and yard next to Tiger Stadium.LSU says Mike is one of only two live tiger college mascots in the U.S. and the only one living on a college campus.Baker said LSUs athletic department has covered the costs of Mikes cancer treatment, but he said he didnt have a dollar estimate.
