HOUSTON -- Despite their injury-ravaged pitching staff suffering another blow this week, the Los Angeles Angels continue to build on the momentum they established prior to the All-Star Game break when they won five times during a 10-game swing through Tampa, Boston and Baltimore.Having lost right-hander Garrett Richards and left-hander Andrew Heaney to torn ulnar collateral ligaments earlier this season, the Angels discovered that right-hander Nick Tropeano suffered the same injury on July 18 and will likely require season-ending Tommy John surgery.Yet despite these tribulations, the Angels (43-52) have won 10 of 12 games and completed a 6-0 homestand with a 7-4 win over the Rangers on Wednesday night. After surrendering just one run in a three-game sweep of the White Sox, the Angles used their offense to bludgeon Texas, earning a second consecutive sweep despite allowing 15 runs.I think were getting contributions from a lot of guys, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of his offense. Our lineup is getting deeper. I think were running the bases better. Our situational hitting has been good. Our on-base percentage over the last month has been terrific. So were getting opportunities, were feeding the guys in the middle (of the lineup). Albert (Pujols) is swinging the bat better (and) getting his RBI shots. Mike (Trout) is doing what he does. I think on the offensive side were doing the things we anticipated doing. The Angels will open a three-game series at Minute Maid Park on Friday night against the Astros, against whom they have dropped eight consecutive games. The good news is that the reigning American League Player of the Week, right-hander Matt Shoemaker, will be on the bump.Shoemaker (5-9, 4.08 ERA) is coming off his first career shutout, a brilliant 1-0 win over the White Sox in which he registered a career-high 13 strikeouts against six hits and zero walks. Shoemaker has pitched effectively against the Astros this season, going 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA in three starts, recording 24 strikeouts against 20 hits in 21 1/3 innings. The Astros (51-44) will counter with right-hander Lance McCullers (4-4, 3.61 ERA). McCullers has faced the Angels once this season, allowing one run on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings while not factoring in the decision of a 3-2 victory on June 22. McCullers is 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA in five career starts against the Angels. The Astros capped a 3-3 road trip with a 7-0 win over the Athletics on Wednesday. Shortstop Carlos Correa finished with three walks and three RBI in the victory, continuing his resurgent productivity since claiming the cleanup spot in the batting order.Over the 29 games since he began batting fourth, Correa owns a slash line of .296/.400/.574 with six home runs and 30 RBI. Correa had more than twice as many strikeouts (68) as walks (31) before the move but has almost evened his ratio since with 21 strikeouts against 18 walks.Hitting behind All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve, who is batting .500/.537/.750 against the Angels in 2016, has benefitted Correa. He was very disciplined in some RBI opportunities, which is good to see, Astros manager A.J. Hinch said of Correa to MLB.com. Obviously, behind Altuve, we want him to be really, really productive because theres a lot times guys arent going to pitch to him. Shaquell Moore Jersey . "It doesnt get any better than that," Giambi said. "Im speechless." The Indians are roaring toward October. Giambi belted a two-run, pinch-hit homer with two outs in the ninth inning to give Cleveland a shocking 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night, keeping the Indians up with the lead pack in the AL wild-card race. Cobi Jones Jersey . In the lead up - which seemed to begin the moment Mike Geiger blew the whistle in Houston last Thursday night - the Impact rumour mill went into overdrive. The speculation went into meltdown mode, of the golden nugget variety. https://www.cheapusasoccer.com/ . Then the Pacers gave Oladipo and his Orlando teammates the cold shoulder. Paul Georges buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter spurred a 21-4 run, finally sending Indiana past the Magic 97-87 in a tougher-than-expected opening night matchup. Nick Lima Jersey . Halifax beat the Saint John Sea Dogs 7-5 on the strength of two goals apiece from Nikolaj Ehlers, Matt Murphy and Brent Andrews. Jonathan Drouin also scored and had three assists while Zachary Fucale made 17 saves for the Mooseheads (16-8-0), who led 6-1 after two periods. USA Soccer Jerseys 2019 . -- Matt Rupert scored once in regulation and again in the shootout as the London Knights extended their win streak to nine games by defeating the Owen Sound Attack 4-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action. One year ago, a rising star named Nyquist rallied to victory in the $2 million Sentient Jet Breeders Cup Juvenile, defeating a quality group of rivals that included an up-and-coming colt named Exaggerator. As we all know, Nyquist and Exaggerator went on to win the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands and Preakness Stakes, respectively, showing that the Breeders Cup Juvenile can be a great place to look for future Triple Crown contenders. The 2016 edition of the Juvenile is one of the most competitive in recent memory, with 11 talented 2-year-olds set to face off in this 1-1/16-mile race. Since theres no standout favorite in the wagering, the odds on any given horse could be higher than expected, making it possible to secure a nice profit with simple win and place bets. One horse that I find particularly exciting is Gormley (#7), whose morning-line odds are 5-1. Trained by John Shirreffs, who isnt known for sending out 2-year-olds to win major races, Gormley caught my eye with his powerful win in the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes on Oct. 1 at Santa Anita Park, taking the lead and never facing a serious challenge on his way to a 3-length win.Despite this impressive victory, Gormley didnt appear to be very focused at all during the race, keeping his ears up in a sign of relaxation and distraction throughout the race. He has shown the same trait in his morning workouts, but has been more focused when allowed to race behind other horses, giving him a target to chase. With the speedy pair of Syndergaard (#2) and Three Rules (#6) expected to set the pace in the Juvenile, Gormley should be able to settle in behind the early leaders and stay much more focused. If Gormley improves at all off his win in the FrontRunner, I think hell be difficultt to beat.ddddddddddddI also like the chances of Not This Time (#10), who has been absolutely spectacular in his last two races. After winning a maiden race at Ellis Park by 10 lengths (while running his final quarter-mile in a rapid :23.33), he contested the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs and cruised to an effortless 8-3/4-length victory despite getting off to a slow start and racing wide.To be honest, words cant describe how easily Not This Time has won his last two races, and hes among the most exciting contenders for next years Kentucky Derby. The only question marks are the trip to Santa Anita (hes been based in Kentucky throughout his career), his post position draw (he could be in for a wide trip from post-position 10) and the possibility of encountering a very fast pace, which he doesnt have much experience with.If youre convinced that Gormley or Not This Time will win the Juvenile, but arent sure which, I recommend playing Wagering Strategy A -- win bets on both colts. However, if you want to shoot for a bigger score, I would use Wagering Strategy B and play win and place bets on Gormley. If he wins, the potential for a big payoff is higher, and if he finishes second, the place payoff should still cover the bet with a small profit.Wagering Strategy A$10 to win on Gormley (would return $60 at 5-1 odds)$15 to win on Not This Time (would return $67.50 at 7-2 odds)Wagering Strategy B$12 to win on Gormley (would return $72 at 5-1 odds)$13 to place on Gormley (variable; would return approximately $35)Good luck, and enjoy the race! For more stories like this check out Americas Best Racing.
