PITTSBURGH -- Next man up. Anytime one of his players goes down with an injury, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is quick to lean on one of his favorite clichés, a reminder to his team that while the personnel may change, the expectations do not.Considering the rate starters made their way to the sideline during Sunday nights clinical dissection of Kansas City, Tomlin might want to tweak the mantra just a bit. This week, itll be next men up. Preferably as many as possible.Right tackle Marcus Gilberts balky left ankle mean he is likely out this weekend when the New York Jets visit Heinz Field. Gilberts most likely replacement, veteran Ryan Harris, is dealing with a leg issue of his own. Versatile backup Cody Wallace remains out with a bad knee and left guard Ramon Fosters bruised sternum is still pretty sore. And thats just the offensive line. Linebackers Jarvis Jones and Anthony Chickillo were also dinged up against the Chiefs and Tomlin didnt exactly sound optimistic Tuesday that Ryan Shaziers right knee -- which forced him to the inactive list last week -- is good enough to return to practice.Tomlin praised his teams resiliency for bouncing back from an embarrassing stumble in Philadelphia by pushing around Kansas City in a 43-14 romp. The Steelers (3-1) will need it again as they try get to 4-1 for the first time since 2010, which also happened to be the last time they reached the Super Bowl. Its a good thing we responded well to (injuries) a week ago, Tomlin said. Weve got to be thoughtful as coaches and put these guys in position to perform.Tomlin praised guard B.J. Finney, a former practice squad player who filled in capably for Foster against the Chiefs. It may be Chris Hubbards turn if Gilbert and Harris both cant go. Like Finney, Hubbard is a former practice squad player who has yet to make his first career start. Unlike Finney, Hubbard -- an interior lineman -- may have to make his debut somewhere other than his natural position.Whoever lines up in front of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will have to take on one of the leagues most productive defensive lines. Eight of New Yorks 11 sacks have come from the defensive front four, including two by former Steeler Steve McLendon.Getting to the ninth lineman on the roster is less than ideal, though the Steelers have proven adept at dealing with adversity. They finished third in the league in total offense in 2015 even with perennial Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey missing the entire season with an ankle injury.Finding a way to get five men working together in concert can be difficult, particularly when the faces can change on a week-to-week basis. Then again, offensive line coach Mike Munchak figures thats why he gets paid. Munchak coaches to the group as a whole, not just one specific player at a time. That way everyone knows what everyone elses responsibility is on a given play.He makes sure the whole group is accountable, left tackle Alejandro Villanueva said. And Tomlins job is to find the 53 healthiest and most prepared field are the one in uniforms every Sunday. He neednt look far for proof of the importance of patience. Finney signed as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and held his own against Kansas Citys dynamic front seven. Safety Jordan Dangerfield, bounced around on the fringe for three years with Buffalo and the Steelers before making his first NFL start last week. He responded with five tackles while avoiding major mistakes. Its good to see a guy thats walked the journey that he walked ... a guy who was a practice squad player for 2/3 years then a special teamer who now gets an opportunity to show a few things on defense, Tomlin said.Dangerfield could be out there again on Sunday as Robert Golden continues to rehab a hamstring problem. So could linebacker Vince Williams, who put together a game-high 15 tackles in place of Shazier. He was highly productive and very active, Tomlin said. I cant underscore the importance of communication and his role in it.Game notes WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, who left Sunday nights game with a shoulder problem, should practice this week and is expected to be available on Sunday. ... FB Roosevelt Nix (back) is nearing a return. ... WR Eli Rogers (toe) and CB Senquez Golson (shoulder) have already been ruled out.---AP NFL website: http://www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL coverage on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFLAir Force 1 China . Air Force 1 Discount . -- An ugly goal by Nick Bonino helped the Anaheim Ducks overcome the defensive-minded Phoenix Coyotes on a night when their ragged power play continued to struggle. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Corey Graham was in the midst of discussing why its unfair to pin all the blame on the Bills secondary for giving up big plays, when the safety was informed how many completions of 50 yards or longer Buffalo has given up this season.Graham was stunned to learn its already happened seven times in nine games.Really? Thats terrible, the 10th-year player said, sitting at his locker in wide-eyed disbelief on Wednesday. Thats crazy. Its also unacceptable, Graham said, because defending deep passes shouldnt be difficult. This league is pretty simple as a defensive back: Keep the ball in front of you, he said. Its just guys have to focus on their technique, and when the balls in the air, youve got to make the play. The Bills havent made nearly enough plays, which is why coach Rex Ryan is seriously considering making changes at cornerback as Buffalo (4-5) comes out of its bye week off to play at Cincinnati (3-5-1) on Sunday.Offseason free-agent addition Corey White is competing with Ronald Darby to take over the starting spot opposite Stephon Gilmore. And rookie sixth-round draft pick Kevon Seymour is in line to replace Nickell Robey-Coleman for the No. 3 spot.Im tired of mistakes, Ryan said, foregoing what has traditionally been his player-friendly approach. Im not here to make friends. Im here to win.The seven completions of over 50 yards matches the number the Bills gave up in their two previous seasons combined. This years total already surpasses any season total Buffalos had during its 16-season playoff drought.Weve got to start making plays and making teams pay for throwing jump balls up, Ryan said. Im tired of seeing it. And Im sure our fans are as well. Were playing pretty good defense, but thats killing us.Its a concern that began in Buffalos season-opening 13-7 loss at Baltimore, when Joe Flacco hit Mike Wallace for a 66-yyard touchdown pass.dddddddddddd And the trend resurfaced over the past four games during which the Bills have given up five 50-plus-yard catches while failing to manage an interception. The final straw came in a 31-25 loss at Seattle on Nov. 7, when Ryan benched Darby shortly after the second-year starter gave up a 50-yard pass to Doug Baldwin on the Seahawks fifth play from scrimmage.Ryan said hes not particularly singling out Darby because theres plenty of blame to go around. And yet, he placed the onus on Darby to regain the teams confidence in him.Its just not his confidence, its about our confidence, Ryan said. We need Darby to play the way hes capable of playing. And if theres a reason hes not ... weve got to ask ourselves why its happening.Gilmores play has been inconsistent , too. He was burned several times in a 37-31 loss to the Jets in Week 2. And a miscommunication led to Chris Hogan beating Gilmore for a 53-yard TD catch in New Englands 41-25 win last month. The secondary has played without a key component since hard-hitting safety Aaron Williams sustained a season-ending neck injury at Miami on Oct. 23 -- a 28-25 loss, which prompted Buffalos three-game skid. And yet, this is not what Ryan was expecting from a position group that was the defenses strength a year ago, when Buffalos front seven had difficulty generating pass rush. This year, the struggles have been reversed. Buffalo has an NFL-leading 30 sacks, but ranks tied for 18th with just six interceptions -- four coming against Arizona.Tackle Kyle Williams pins the blame on the entire defense. Were all in this together, Williams said. We need to do better. Point blank.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
